An orange tinged wedge
teeters on the edge of an autumn night sky
Like a quartered lemon set down on a blank plate
It hovers
Balanced
Setting by the stroke of midnight
The Pleiades in hot pursuit
How many moons set
just shy of 92 years
Full, half, quarter, crescent
till the dark resumes
We arrive helpless
squeezed to bits
sometimes bruised and battered
Often we go out the same way
Lemon wedges
pale orange grooves with channels of juices
Once succulent and tart
turn cracked and bitter
We rise, we set, we transcend, as the moon keeps vigil
